Cuts and Tears
It comes down heavy.
Like a bag of stone.
The baggage I carry.
To you is unknown.
'Cause I saw it coming.
Before it was seen.
He showed the signs.
I know what this means.
But he's done this to me
Twice before this.
Never thought I'd regret
That last goodbye kiss.
Should've seen it coming.
Could've slowed it down.
Naïveté crushed me.
I'm barely a noun…
I'm nothing without him.
But he was repressed.
Should have figured, because
He was so badly depressed.
But the blood on his knife
Was spewed from his wrist.
Brought him pain, but mostly pleasure.
And he clenched up his fist.
And he said that he loved me.
But his scars rule his mind.
One minute he's in love.
The next he's "just…fine…"
So we're "just friends".
At least in his head.
But the torment he caused me
Shall not be shed.
My pillow is tear filled
He slices his skin
Because of what he did to me.
I'm torturing him.
Seven cuts in one night.
He broke my heart again.
And a third heart broken.
From another "Just Friend."

This is a really good sonnet! It had really good rhythm and really good uses of figurative language. Keep writing!

i can relate to this a lot. i dated a guy that's like that but i think i helped him a little.at least i hope i did.

i like this poem a lot! the part with the "brought him pain but mostly pleasure" really spoke to me. i didnt cut myself but i did burn myself; (which is just an other form of self mutilation and generally the same thing) but thats exactly how i felt about it. i remember when i told my ex. he got so mad at me becuase i told him i did it becuase of him (entirely true) regaurdless im better now and i stopped talking to him last november and havent done it since :)

This poem hit me hard. I am a past cutter but my new boyfriend has helped me to stop. Its wonderful and expressive. I hope u continue to write and I would apprciate if u commented on my work.

Cutting has ruined my life, I can't get a job because of my scars, I'm failing school because of my time in the psych hospital, I emotionally break down when I havent cut, my friends hate me because of the pain Ive put them through, and my parents cant look at me anymore. This poem reminds of my friend Margaret, my cutting hurts her more than anyone I know.
