To You

How helpless it is to exist this way

in an idea of what could've been

And you'd already slipped away

before I realized the walls were closing in

And I am learning, I am learning that you are

not everything I thought you were

When I finally got back down to earth I came to find

you're just another flawed person

You burst into my life like a flame

I never meant to let you make me feel this way

And now I'm crawling to the surface again

Blinded by the words we'll never say

oh and it's 2am again

It won't be long before I'm just another girl

that's come and gone to you

But I know my regrets I will soon come to forget

my one mistake was in trusting too soon

You tasted like longing, I kissed you with hope

and in your eyes I saw the miles we could go

But now I see you were only my first chapter

and there's so much I've yet to know

You burst into my life like a flame

I never meant to let you make me feel this way

And now I'm crawling to the surface again

Blinded by the words we'll never say

oh and it's 2am again

Did you ever think of falling in

or did you know with every laugh that you'd soon leave?

Did you ever think of writing just a few words to say that

you were glad for just a while we could be what we had been?

Feelings come to pass, oh feelings come to fade

It's almost sad how soon we're able to feel the same

But I guess we're only human

looking for a love to make us whole again

You burst into my life like a flame

I never meant to let you make me feel this way

And now I'm crawling to the surface again

Blinded by the words we'll  never say

oh and it's 2am again

The author's comments:

This is song about someone who broke my heart. Someone I felt a lot of anger and resentment towards for a long time. Now I feel towards them only gratitude. Gratefulness for the lessons they taught me, the memories they created with me, and the strength they allowed me to find in myself.
