I'm the one with a tattered soul-

Mended together with long lost hopes.

You're the one with a broken heart

And no one knows where your pieces are.

Our conversations are a mix

Of bitterness adn lyrics

And jumbled puzzle pieces 

That we call compliments

And I tell myself that I can help,

But I know that I'm no use,

Because you're not broken

And I'm not tattered.

We're just a couple wounded youth 

With nothing to show for it,

Save for a couple cuts and bruises

And a sense of abandonment.

We take comfort in each other's agony,

Because it's all we've ever known

And, if even for a minute, 

It takes our minds off our own. 

I wish I knew the secret to happiness;

I wish that I didn't wear a cloak of fake confidence;

I wish that I could tell you that everything is gonna be okay,

But I can't make any promises.

We're young and stupid

And life is hard,

But this life is what we make of it

And I think that's the worst part.

We dictate where we go,

Not our parents and not the road.

We live by books and numbers and rules

And I think it's time we grew up 

And made some of our own.
