"They say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one." -John Lennon

We didn’t know how it would start
How could we know where it ends

It’s a maze of wrong turns
With dogs on our backs

Faces pass by with second thoughts
Living is a war
They've already fought

And the hat is gone
Over the wall
Over the dogs

Only one thing left to do
Follow the path we made
Before we are all laid
In the deep dirty ground

Because
The hat is gone
Past the wall
Can we get past the dogs

It goes longer than ever imagined
We used to dream of
Sand, sun, and wind on our backs
But instead we find dogs

Heads down and hearts dead
The ones we know
Just out of reach

Wings clipped and chained feet
The dogs have caught up
They have us in reach

And still
The hat is gone
All in as the dogs put us where we belong
Back over the fence

I can't come up with a good title.  I don't like this one.  Please comment if you have any suggestions!!

It's about breaking out of prison and commitment hence the phrase, "the hat is over the wall."
