Weary Heart Surgery
I watch the shadows dancing
 Ballerinas on a stage
 They tiptoe over inkblots
 All across each sacred page.
In the darkness of the night
I read the words you've scribbled here
And I wonder if it'd feel the same
If you were close enough to hear.
To hear the way I cry for you
To hear me say your name
To hear the prayers I whisper
 When it's driving me insane.

Cause you can patch a weary heart together
 With scissors, thread and glue
But the surgery won't last forever
 Not for me and you.
Oh I long for one more tender smile
On kiss to bring you home
When I open up my eyes, however
 I am all alone.

In my mind I see the day you left
And all the tears we cried
Your promise to come home to me
 Before my eyes have dried.
I imagine all we had together
And what we could have still
But love is not a simple dream
To be conquered by pure will.
Oh all the faith I have to give
 The blindfold, leap and all
In your hands I've placed myself
So catch me as I fall.

'Cause you can patch a weary heart together
 With scissors, tread and glue
But the surgery won't last forever
 Not for me and you
Oh, how I long for one more tender smile
One kiss to bring me home
When I open up my eyes, however
 I am still alone.

And these tears run down my pale cheeks
 like whispers in my ear
But some letters on a torn out page
 Can't chase away the fear.

'Cause you can patch a weary heart together,
 With scissors, thread and glue
but the surgery won't last forever
 not for me and you
Oh I long for one more tender smile
One kiss to bring us home
When you open up your eyes, however
 Know you're not alone.
