"Life is but a dream that shall be written by the dreamers"

As I stood on the boat, looking back
I saw the sun set and the sky turn black
The island I left had become my thread
To weave into my soul so lost
I did not know what my grief had cost
And the sun did rise to show its red

My home, my friends, I will return again
For now I must go, but not in vain
I’ll chase the sea, I will not dread
Here is not where I must be
I won’t find what I long to see
And I’ll follow the sun’s red

For all the pain and hurt I’ve seen
I’ll show the world I’m not where I’ve been
And all the blood that I have bled
I will make it worth the time I spent
Knowing I was not content
And you will see that I am red

I’ve made decisions to which I regret
I’ve seen people cry whom I’ve never met
I still hold on to the disease that spread
In my veins that is my youth
Time will not make me see the truth
And I am glad I still bleed red

But I still haven’t given up that ghost
The one that haunts what I love most
The past may hide what I have said
Though you may see my words are weak
They come from the truth that I must speak
And so you know that all I see is red

The night I saw the monster within you
I know mistakes only define what you do
And so the water I must tread
For in this light I see your face
Not a single line of disgrace
And you may call me red

An island sits not too far
From where I stand with my guitar
I sing for you and all I’ve pled
Where I have found my soul so still
You’ve dragged me all the way uphill
And now I see the mountains are red

The sun casts a shadow on the trees
That makes me wonder about the sea
I miss all that’s cleared my head
The wind and rain which tore the sky
That fed the need of my nostalgic eye
And I miss all that makes you red

The author's comments:
I frequently write songs and this is about finding yourself. The island that is mentioned is Newfoundland, the place I believe I found myself. Red literally symbolizes the sunset I saw on the back of the boat as I left. The figurative meaning is left to the reader but I have my own reasons for the colour.

Impossible is not a word, it's just a reason for someone not to try.
