Happy Endings
I’m sitting on your lap and thinking
Am I growing or are you shrinking?
I’m much too tall to put my weight on you

But I know I’m always welcome here
 Your lap will never disappear
And neither will my memories – it’s true

I’ll always remember the songs you wrote for me
Always cherish your stories and fantasies
I always loved bouncing on your knee
 The happy endings never end

You always helped me laugh away my fright
And though it bothers me that you are always right
You stop the tears when I’m crying and scared at night
 The happy endings never end

You patiently teach me the guitar
And we both know I won’t go far
But I love just sitting here with you

You tell to follow my dreams
But also tell me how crazy it seems
Everything I want I must pursue

I’ll always remember the songs you wrote for me
Always cherish your stories and fantasies
I always loved bouncing on your knee
 The happy endings never end

You always helped me laugh away my fright
And though it bothers me that you are always right
You stop the tears when I’m crying and scared at night
 The happy endings never end

When I grow up and move away
I hope that I come back and stay
With you and mom and Matthew will come too

And I bet I’ll never ever be
Too big to sit upon your knee
No matter what I’ll always come back to you

I’ll always remember the songs you wrote for me
Always cherish your stories and fantasies
I always loved bouncing on your knee
 The happy endings never end

You always helped me laugh away my fright
And though it bothers me that you are always right
You stop the tears when I’m crying and scared at night
 The happy endings never end

I’m sitting on your lap and thinking
Am I growing or are you shrinking?
I’m much too tall to put my weight on you

But I bet I’ll never ever be
Too big to sit upon your knee
And this is where I say– Happy Father’s Day to you

No matter what I’ll always come back to you
