"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." - Gandhi

All the voices imitate what people want to hear
All the people follow them because they live in fear
All the children wonder why the voices sound the same
All the parents look around for someone they can blame

America, on bended knee
I ask you now
Can you hear me?
America, through bloodshot eyes
I want to know
Why you tell lies

The beauty of the spoken word’s the kind that no one sees
The truths laid down by honest men are lost in liar’s pleas
One by one they burn and die ‘till ashes block the lights
One by one the friendships fall, replaced by bloody fights

America, on bended knee
I ask you now
Can you see me?
America, through bloodshot eyes
I want to know
Why you tell lies

The voices break
The sirens wail
The stealers take
The hopes set sail
The world is smaller than it seems
But still too big to hear our screams

The people keep on telling us to listen to the hum
We listen hard and wait for years for our own time to come
Inside our heads, our feelings lie; we tell ourselves to heal
But in our hearts, we somehow know that this nightmare is real

America, on bended knee
I ask you now
Can you hear me?
America, through bloodshot eyes
I want to know
Why you tell lies

I wrote this on a whim in the middle of the night. It can be about whatever you want it to be; I left it open for interpretation
