Favorite Quote:
"To thine own self be true."

It's hard to say goodbye to you
when I...
I love you.
But I know in my soul
it'll all be worth it soon.

When you
come back home
with a big smile on your face
saying, “I love you.”
The day you made that call on your way home from work
telling me you had your mind made up,
I'm sorry I called you 'jerk'.
The man in you had to do what you had to do.
And now looking back I'm glad you went away.
It gave me time to see all that we have made.
When you return my arms will be outstretched
in waiting, welcoming you back home.
That was what I truly believed...
before you were long gone.

Long gone...
Long gone.
I should have known to never let you go
because now I'm all alone.
And you're long gone...
honey, long gone.
God help my heart and help my soul
to go on
'cause my one true love is long gone.

That day you took me way downtown
to let me pick and let me pick that nice ring out
I knew you were for real.
It wasn't big,
but I took what I could get.
You said soon you'd get me the real deal.
And I believed you foolishly.
I should have known you'd betray me.
Now you're gone and I'm still home
waiting for you with this cheap ring on.
Honey, why do I even try to remember
the time when I really used to love you?
Well those days gone,
and I'm trying to move on.
I have to now because baby...
you're long gone.

Long gone...
Long gone.
I should have known to never let you go
because now I'm all alone.
And you're long gone...
honey, long gone.
God help my heart and help my soul
to go on
'cause my one true love is long gone.

Long gone...
Long gone.
I should have known to never let you go
because now I'm all alone.
And you're long gone...
honey, long gone.
God help my heart and help my soul
to go on
'cause my one true love is long gone.

Ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
Ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
Ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh,
you're gone...
Oh oh ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
Ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh
Ah ooh ah ooh ah ooh,
you're gone.

The author's comments:
In case it's not clear from the lyrics, this song is the woes of a young woman who's fiance has gone off to war. He promised he would marry her as soon as he came home from combat...but he never made it alive. Now as she struggles to move on from her one true love, she harbors pain and anger in his absence.
