“When I am writing, I’m very much on the ground, on the same ground my characters are treading.” ―Graham Swift

It all started with a snack
I wish I could go back
He was alone in the corner
I wish I could’ve warned her

I knocked like a heartbeat
Right to the place we used to meet
I cried for him to let me in
Knowing he is paying for his sin

Only I can’t turn from him
To people he seems nothing more than grim
He became more than expected
Why am I so connected?

He only turns people away,
But I always stay.
He hurts me, and I still run in his arms
I run swiftly into the harm

Is this love?
Like the kind from above?
No, we tried too many times,
But maybe he thinks about us sometimes

I’ll still stand here waiting
Unashamed, but still hating
Hoping we can be better than before
If only you opened the door

I wrote this when I found out terrible news about a person I cared about the most, and this is our story.
