it was the slip of evening, the curse of the crescent moon

that gave way to exquisite artistry

the arrow notched on bated breath flies true

to the structured sculpture of her

wide eyes open innocence

clamoring cousins, counts close doors

but feelings bleed through to a hopeless tapestry

all shades of blue

impending fates align, foes now families cry

cling in the memories that swarm of two lovers intertwined, bodies still warm

hearts full and lives struck in strife

a wife wedded in love’s cruel knife

young beauty blossoms only old and ugly death

Romeo felled first by Juliet’s embrace

love or lust left behind when the stars align

fates sooth singing families, pierce crescendoing cries

run Romeo run

The author's comments:

I’ve always been fascinated by Romeo and Juliet, specifically the naivety of Romeo, the adult in the relationship even towards the untimely end. In this piece, I document my frustrations with Romeo but also the tragedy that marred the young and beautiful couple.
