Brooklyn Bridge

July 26, 2021
By Anonymous

laughter beckons on the breeze
a truck pants like a dog in July
I went looking for salvation
in the smile of some passerby
couples kissing in Times Square
grinning from cheek to cheek
I heard someone on the subway
say they're learning how to lucid dream

it all just makes me feel so alone
the way those warm lights
always seem to come
from someone else's window
now im standing on the Brooklyn bridge
with no place to call home

kids laughing without a worry
in the park where I used to play
businessman in a hurry
with his dreams in his briefcase
even the old man on the corner
who is barely getting by
cradles his red mandolin
and plays it with a smile

it all just makes me feel so alone
the way those warm lights
always seem to come
from someone else's window
now im standing on the Brooklyn bridge
with no one to call home

I looked for answers in the city lights
and the cars rushing below as well
every time a stranger smiles at me
I wonder what they're trying to sell
and I tried to follow the sound of music
dancing on the summer wind
I tried so hard to make myself
into someone you would miss
but now you're not around
there's nobody to save me now
its just me on the Brooklyn bridge
