The Perfect Candidate

I’m standing alone,

Near the railroad,

Waving,

Like an imbecile,

You’re already far off,

Because,

As the train rushed off,

Your face grew distant,

eventually,

Disappearing,

 into the distance.

At a speed,

Slower than lightyears,

But faster than my feet.

And I’m stuck here pondering,

Left here wondering,

How’d things,

become this way?

(chorus)

Cause you were the perfect candidate,

The person I wanted,

To spend the rest of my life with,

To spend the rest of my life with,

Mesmerizing, charming, stunning,

Words I felt too shy to say,

Yet thought about relentlessly,

Hundred times at least,

Until you decided to open up first,

Exchange a greeting,

With that warm friendly tone of yours,

Leaving me with no choice,

Except to fall head over heels.

Unexpectedly,

We had so many common interests,

And if there was a foreign concept,

You would explain it,

Ever so clearly,

Without any notion of,

Superiority.

And after that first encounter,

I was already,

Daydreaming,

(chorus)

Cause you were the perfect candidate,

The person I wanted,

To spend the rest of my life with,

To spend the rest of my life with,

Then the next day,

You stop by my seat,

Eyes wide,

Eagerly,

And we continue to talk,

Hours and hours,

About the future,

Plans that seemed impossible,

With energy that seemed inexhaustible,

You said you wanted to be a rock star,

Travel to places like myanmar,

Form a band,

Full of other enthusiasts,

Become in demand,

Rich enough to,

Rain money at your command.

And I told you,

About how I wanted to,

Become a singer-songwriter,

Of country music,

Travel around different locations,

And perform on whim,

Guitar on shoulder,

Long hair blowing in the wind,

Music in my head,

And lyrics flowing,

At my command.

Money and power,

Nothing to do with me,

Doing things on a spree.

And so,

in the small town that we resided in,

We worked,

 towards our individual goals,

Giving free performances,

Cheering each other on,

Singing original songs,

Going to stages,

Cause that’s where we belong,

Then on a fateful night,

Midst of pounding snow,

A phone call arrived,

With a NYC zip-code.

After a long time,

 you finally hung up,

and said,

It was from a record label,

However sad,

However depressed,

I couldn’t show,

I wouldn’t show,

Instead,

I congratulated you,

And thought,

How’d things become this way?

(chorus)

Cause you were the perfect candidate,

The person I wanted,

To spend the rest of my life with,

To spend the rest of my life with,

And now I stand alone,

Near the railroad,

Our dreams,

The very things,

That connected us from the start,

Have pulled us apart,

And I can’t fathom to think,

That one day,

We may,

Regard each other,

As total strangers,

But I want to,

Always remember you,

 As the perfect candidate,

The person I wanted,

To spend the rest of my life with,

To spend the rest of my life with.

The author's comments:

This song is heavily inspired by the Manga Nana(the relationship between Ren and Nana Osaki). I tried to think of a melody, but failed to come up with anything that satisfied my ears. Well, hope y'all enjoy.
