I come from mistakes forgiven
But never forgotten
A small family in a big house
Where our mistakes were blankets for our truths
I come from piano lessons in the front room
Shoe tying lessons on the front step

Slamming doors
I come from beauty
Within every hug
mixed with regret
In every insult
But believe me,

Were happy
Believe me.

I’ll never
forget where I came from.
