My First Boyfriend

My first boyfriend hit me.
Screamed at me, punched me, and kicked me.
I stayed with him because i thought this was normal,
and for the times he called me adorable.
When he told me he loved me
he looked past my eyes.
It was then i knew all of it was lies.

i wrote this for a friend who recently told me her story of how she got out of an abusive relationship. i have no experience, and some may say i have no right writing about this topic, but i believe everyone needs to be educated on the difficult topic of relationship abuse.
