First Christmas Alone

James told me to have
A very Merry Christmas
I wished him the same
He kissed me goodbye
And as I opened the door
I couldn't find my folks.
I saw a bright tree
In truth it was lopsided
But that was okay
There was the smell of
Freshly burnt cookies and though
it had felt like home
It really wasn't and
I had rented my place but
I wish they were here.
