Snakes

The serpent sat as still as it could

For about a foot away, a towering human stood

In the next 10 seconds, neither would move

But when the snake hissed, the situation improved

The human flinched, then hit the ground running

To the snake, his speed was quite stunning

It decided to follow, for whatever the reason

But the vermin didn’t know that it was hunting season

As it drew nearer towards its ‘prey’

The snake’s endurance started to give way

The serpent got lost and filled with regret

But over the snake’s head, came a large net

When our little friend finally came to his senses

Made him realize his actions have consequences

All around him, a dome made of glass

Partially filled with tufts of fake grass

For what seemed like weeks, he sat in distress

Sadly, that feeling soon made him depressed

But then one day luck went in his favor

And this day, he would forever savor

The same boy he chased last time they met

Put his hand in the habitat and gave him a pet

The snake’s heart soon filled with joy

As he went home with the happy little boy.
