Ode to Nightmare
You were a paralyzing dream,
like a shadow,
I couldn’t eradicate.
A hazy silhouette,
I could barely discern.
It was just you and I
in dark, open space.
You shot me in the chest.
It sounded like an earthquake.
The bullet shoved me like a bully.
A fountain of dark red liquid
gushed from two huge holes
in my chest.
I slumped over;
my heart gradually halted.
Still,
I emerged from
this abyss.
