Safe Place
It’s a constant thunderstorm that is sometimes intense and sometimes it’s in the background
But it’s always there
And it almost always intensifies at night
Unless I am distracted or just too tired
The thunderstorm that constantly pours and lights up the sky with it's lightning and breaks my ears with its thunder
And if you went outside you’d get lost
Dizzy, disoriented
Unable to see through the rain
Clutching your ears as the thunder rips through your head and leaves it pounding
Spinning around in circled looking for shelter
The lightning hurts your ears
Then all of a sudden you see me
I’m soaked and my ears are bleeding
My eyes no longer close out of pain when the lightning flashes across the sky
I’m calm
I live in this chaos
I smile and take your hand leading you to a big building
You go inside
There are hundreds of other people
You can’t hear the thunder or see the lightning
It’s warm
You’re givin food and a towel
You’re safe
But you worry about me
But I’ve already gone back out into the chaos
And I’ll continue to find people who are lost and bring them to that safe place
Where they can be happy
And if you ask “what about you?”
I’ll calmly say
Don’t worry about it
