I remember
I remember when I was younger that we used to play all the time,
We used to play house and dress up the dog,
I remember that one night when we grabbed our clothes
And put my grey shirt and your purple scarf on him
I remember his brown, fluffy tail wagging back and forth as we laughed,
We laughed so hard that we had tears coming out of our eyes
I remember his rough tongue as he scrapped it across my face
I remember seeing the joy in your eyes
The eyes that looked at me with love, adoration, and happiness
I remember having tea parties with Ms. Honey,
A slightly golden yellow teddy bear with black beady eyes
And how you would make the pitch of your voice higher to play Ms. Honey
I remember coming home on fridays and the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies would be all over the house
I remember coming home and as soon as I opened the door the dogs started barking uncontrollably and our parrot would start screaming bloody murder because he wanted to come out and play
I remember how you hated when I left the house to go for a sleepover
I remember how you would crawl into my bed at night sometimes when dad was in Afghanistan
I remember the sound of you soft voice as you sang lullabies to me and Myha so that we’d fall asleep
I remember your soft lips as they gently kissed me on the forehead before you went to sleep
I remember the days when you took the day off work because I was sick
I remember all the times you told me you loved me and how proud you were of me
I remember the way you danced around the house when there was music playing
The way you grabbed my hands and twirling me in circles
Which reminded me of the way a ballerina twirled
I remember you letting me step on your shoes as you carried me and danced around for what seemed like hours but were only minutes.
I remember when you used to make my favorite food on my birthday,
Baked potatoes with sour cream, bacon and cheese
The way the flavors mixed in my mouth kind of like the way red and yellow mix to make the color orange
