Autobiography
I was the first born
out of a, not so strict,
family of five.
In Carolina Puerto Rico,
A beautiful island with beaches, and
a tropical rainforest called El Yunque.

Once I had
a sun conure, his beautiful
Orangy-yellow body,
his yellow blue and green
tail and wing feathers.
He would screech every day
At 3:45 on the dot as my sister and I walked in
our front door from school, how he would greet us
with his hugs, his head on our shoulder
as soon as we took him out of his cage.
At 9 years old I
watched him die in my hands.
Once I held a puppy while
trying to get her to breath
but failing to do so.
That day I learned that not
everything in this world can
make it out  alive.
My cousin was 11
when she knocked a baby bird out of its nest
We ended up keeping it in a large cardboard box
For a week until we found
someone who could properly take care of it
That’s when I knew I wanted to have a career in helping animals
I’ve traveled across the country
when I was 13 with two labradors in the backseat
from Alaska, through Canada
and down to Georgia in a car.
I lost my chocolate lab in Canada
for two hours and found him sitting
calmly waiting for me to open the door
to our motel room.
That’s when I learned to be patient with my dog because
he always finds his way home.
