Moving Day
I had plenty of friends when I was a kid,
But as I got older I switched schools a lot,
My life has definitely been a rollercoaster,
I switched my first school in second grade,
Because a little boy in my class used to bully me,
He’d call me names and push me during recess,
So my mom took me in her black cadillac,
On a warm Saturday, to find a new school,
My classes were better, I made new friends,
And I had a best friend named Becky,
We would hang-out almost everyday,
We’d even write little comics,
Stories about the games we would play outside,
After third grade the school closed,
My friends all got transferred to different schools,
And It was just Becky, her sister and I,
I was lucky because Becky lived near me,
In a little yellow house, just on the other side of the block,
Fourth grade started, I was the new kid in class again,
I was surprised to find Becky in my class with me,
But Becky moved at the end of fourth grade,
Another friend was going away,
I still had friends in the neighborhood,
So we played together all summer,
Fifth grade began and I met Alex,
She had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes,
I knew when I met her, we’d be friends forever,
I spent almost everyday at her house,
Playing with the barbies in her sister’s room,
Creating funny adventures for Ken and Barbie,
The time we accidentally cut Ken’s nose off with a scissors,
And told her sister that her dog got at him,
Listening to “Feel so Close” by Calvin Harris,
Singing together with the song on repeat,
Running through the backyard with her dog Louie,
Competing to see who could throw the tennis ball farther,
She was my other half, my best friend,
We’d go to the ends of the Earth for each other,
We began middle school together,
We were a powerful team,
Finishing each other’s sentences,
Spending the entirety of the day together,
Unfortunately at the end of 6th grade,
Alex was told they had to move away,
Her lease was cut short,
And they had a few months to move out,
So I helped her with the rummage sale,
To help her family afford their new house,
I visited whenever I could,
And I still miss her everyday,
But I know she’s only a text away,
So I know in my heart she’s not far,
We both have new friends,
And we both stay in touch,
All thanks to my best friend,
And the memories we share,
I’ve learned how to move on.
