What it's all about
What it's all about
Looking down at your feet, lace your cleats
Glance up to watch them file in
And see you’re in for a treat
While you watch the coaches greet
Gather together as a team
Run, Stretch, Hit and Throw
Routine day by day
Walk into the dugout, grab your glove
Coming out and seeing that the sky has now turned grey
You think nothing of it
Because it's just typical spring softball, hey?
You start to pitch, allowing nothing in your way
You decide how long you're going to stay
Until you realize you have five minutes before the start of the game
You walk out to the mound
Taking your spot
Realizing that you have to give, all you’ve got
Breathing in and out
Taking every pitch one at a time
Looking past the glove, past the fence, seeing those who love you
And those who adore you,
Watching so intensely as if it’s a must
1, then 2, 3, then 4, 5, then 6
The innings go by
You finally see how fast the time flies
When you're doing something you love
You walk out for that last inning
Realizing you’re winning
Even if the team itself is not
You have not only this game, but love -- a passion
Walking off the field, you glance back.
Seeing what is now a plain field of dirt
The game will be forgotten, just written down in a book
The players will leave
The coaches will return with a new team
But the memories will stay with you for eternity
