Hair of Gray
This woman, with hair of gray and
a face of wrinkles,
has been through it all.
She has seen every brith,
every death, and
every happy time in her family’s lives.
She sees life as an ocean,
with its rough waves
but beautiful life and color.
Generations come to see her,
with smiles, and in return,
she hugs each and everyone one
and tells them the stories of death,
birth, and happiness.
Her cup of tea sits on the counter
beside her beaded art,
and her scarf brushes the floor
leaving a mark on the dusty ground.
She dreams of going to a place faraway,
where she can tell her stories and express her beliefs.
This woman, with her cup of tea
and her beaded art,
will live on in spirit with her many stories
and her many beliefs.

I was inspired to write this piece after a picture of an Indian woman. She reminded me of my grandmother who is Indian, and I decided to write my poem based off of what my grandmother does and says. She loves to tell me stories about things she has seen and done and I love going to see her to hear them. I hope people are able to picture this woman in their minds and I hope that they can feel the emotion written in this piece.
