Safe Place
My safe place,
my own little area sequestered
from any other human
The place I go to for alone time
A small hike over hills to reach
my local paradise, where geese call
for their mates and fish break the surface
for any source of food available
Take a breather- relax on the ground
covered in green blades as vibrant as the sun
that sway with the light breeze passing through
the open area I call my safe place
Stare up through the trees,
basking in the sunlight that shines through the
tall brush just a few feet away
Hear the sound of the birds chirping- you’ll be at peace
My safe place,
My own little area where I can relax
and just be myself
The place where I am fully accepted
A small hike over hills to reach
my area greater than any beach
or mountains you could ever dream
of being able to reach
Take a breather- follow me through the trees
filled with teardrop-shaped leaves as bright as can be
that seem to whistle as the wind blows across
the water that glows under the soon-to-set sun at my safe place
Stare up through the trees,
gazing at the vast outer space lit by the light
provided from the center of our universe
even though the sun isn’t the center of my universe
My safe place,
my own little area where I can bring
the one person I always have on my mind-
The person that fully accepts me
A small hike over hills to reach
the place I lay with the person greater than any other boy
or dog you could ever dream
of being able to obtain
Take a breather- look at the night sky
filled with stars as bright as his smile
that appear to twinkle as the moon rises,
illuminating the water below it at my safe place
Stare up through the trees,
peer into a broad, unexplored universe
with the person that means the world to you,
the person that takes on the world with you
My safe place,
my own little area I share with the person
that I can call the other half of me-
The person that basically completes me
A small hike over hills to reach
the place where I can bask in the safety given by
my surroundings, specifically the person
I hold so dear
Take a breather- feel the cool air
fill your lungs, fill your mind with all of the
things that go right in your life
Go ahead- be consumed in yourself at my safe place
Stare up through the trees,
look at the dark lake,
pay attention to the creatures
take note of all of our surroundings
My safe place,
the place where you can see the bright,
silver bullet in the sky watch over us
As if to keep me safe, to keep you safe, at my safe place

I was inspired to write this poem as I lay in a small grass area by my neighborhood pond, which I spend a lot of time relaxing at. I wanted to put it into words the love I have for the pond and spending days there.
