Night in the Woods
The sun sinks gently in the sky
Back to their nests the birds all fly
And tuck their heads beneath their wings
As cricket choirs sweetly sing
The sky becomes a darker blue
And distant owls softly coo
The trees begin to disappear
Except those that are very near
Unseen twigs begin to crack...
And then the sky goes black
There is no light
The moon's not quite
Bright
Enough
To tame the night
Shadows quiver out of sight
They grow in might
The mind takes flight
The dark, it has an appetite
Out of the world it takes a bite
Until sunrise restores the world
With a glow ever so slight
