One More Day
The sand trickles through the hourglass,
Heedless to my passionate pleas.
There’s one more day
Until the iridescent sky turns to ash.
One more day
Until smiles are no longer painted
Onto draining faces.
One more day
Until shooting stars explode
Before I even make my wish.
One more day
Until blood leaks out of my pens
Instead of magical ideas.
One more day
Until the memories evaporate
And I question their existence
In the first place.
One more day
Until I never see your face again,
And it, too,
Can be buried underneath the earth
Along with all the other chances
I never took.
Because, after all,
We’re down to only
One more day.
