Wolves
Our eyes never sleep;
They greet their dark lids with relief.
We should thank them, too,
The walls between me and you,
They’re good at keeping out the cold,
As the howling wind eats up the bold,
"They deserve it," they always repeat.
It’s odd to me, the wind needs to eat,
But some secrets are meant to keep,
And letting us see the strings,
Would be letting us cheat.
So thank those eyelids,
Go back to sleep.
