The little Man in a Gallabaya MAG
On the streets of Cairo the little man sits
His traditional garb, the Gallabaya, stained and dirty
‘Shay’ in one hand, he sips
Tipping his wrinkled face up to the harsh hazy sky
And listens the patter of feet hitting the uneven ground
No one sees the little man
His children have long forgotten him
Trading in their Gallabayas and shay,
Donning attire for the world
One day he hopes his children will come back,
To home
Where the sand shifts,
And the Nile runs free and clean

I grew up in Cairo, Egypt and I have seen the country go through many changes. I watched as the once tourist populated areas became desolate, and the people living and depending on tourist income were left homeless. Many people in Egypt were and are desperate for a change. A Gallabaya is a long 'dress' that is traditional in many Arab countries. Shay is tea in Arabic.
