Birdcage
Six years old
and all you want is
to be listened to
Wanna make friends
but everything you touch
turns icy blue
You want so badly to be heard
even just a single word
But nobody listens or frees you
nobody even sees you
in this
Birdcage
of misery, invisibility
You rattle the bars
but you can't get out
You kick and pound
and scream and shout
Hoping someone might let you out....
Now you're seventeen
you think you have life figured out
you dyed your hair
and you have one best friend
you can't live without
You think you're flying free
you don't even really see the bars
until you hit them
And the glue that fits them
