Double yellow lines
Run down the road.
Street lights trembling in the wind.
Everything is deserted.
There is no one.
I walk into a house,
Looking for hope.
But I see nothing.
Remnants of what used to be appear,
But I don’t recognize them.
Then something familiar catches my attention.
A small stuffed animal,
Torn and battered.
Memories flood back,
Bad ones.
I run out of the house and
Into the abandoned street
And realize how alone
I really am.
