Remembering to Feel
You came home last night.
I didn’t know.
Could you feel me?
Could you feel my red-hot cheeks?
My tender heart, encased in steel.
The lock unlocked that I may feel
What I wouldn’t months ago.
I won’t ask you to be mine
Again.
You and I have docked at different harbors.
But why do I have the urge to swim?
You go with him,
And I, alone
Will reach out my hand
Into the icy, empty cavern
Between us.
I will sit here
And I may cry,
But not for you.
For the thought that I may never love like you
again.
