Empty, waiting
Black envelopes the tightly packed buildings
Populated by wax figures fixed in time
They watch over, anticipating visitors

A switch is flicked on
Dim lights cast hues of yellow and blue
Colorful shops stand tall against the dull, brick path
Footsteps, soft but audible, begin to stroll in

Visitors amble through the crowded streets
Awing in the oddities of the past
Children giggle, bee-lining to the candy shop
The old streets become alive again

     The hum of voices wanes
    Shuffling through the exit
A familiar quietness begins to return
A switch is flicked off

Silence falls across the small town
The streets… still, like a monochrome photo
Prepared to come alive once more
Empty, waiting
