Why is it that people are mean,
We are all just people even if we are new to the scene.
I often wonder what causes people to be rude,
It could be that they are tired or didn’t get enough food.
But bigotry and ignorance obviously go beyond this,
There is another explanation but I can’t determine what that is.
People show racial hate
We are taught that this is just ok, but it is really just bait.
The putting down of others stems from human personality,
But I think social and historical are the main contributors in reality.
Children learn lessons rooted in hate from past generations,
And thus continue this subconscious racism without realizing the translation.
People show religious prejudice,
Even though the one who created us loves us, every last one of us.
Wars are fought and blood is shed,
Over a nonstopping debate that can’t be ended no matter what is said.
Humanity must come to understand that we are all truly one,
We live and die and this is a fact that we can’t shun.
So life should be lived fully
No matter how sad you are or how big the bully.
Life can get you down but you have to stay up,
But you having to seeing that glass as a half-filled cup.
So in the hallway at school say hello to all,
And be kind to everyone no matter how small.
Life will wear you out and you may think you have hit a wall,
But you must count your blessings because some don’t have at all.
A motto in my life is to be kinder than necessary,
Meaning always show happiness though results may vary.
Even after a test that you know you just failed,
You don’t have to put down others and caused them to be curtailed.
Make an effort to be a spark in someone’s day,
Especially to someone who you think is astray.
All of this love and public good deeds
Will come around again but you have to lead.

I wrote this after a few bad experiences at school, and it inspired the theme of this poem.
