A Walk in the Nighttime between the times of 11:36 and 11:41pm
11:36
His hands grasp the brass doorknob
As though he were placing his hand
On top of his grandmother’s
Which always sat motionless
On the arm of her chair
As he walks outside
The transition from the padded carpet under his feet
To the jagged sidewalk outside the big white manor
Was enough to make him realize
He’d stepped out into the open world
The blackberry sky seemed to glimmer
As if shattered bits of glass
Were being sprinkled down
From the vast firmament miles above
11:37
The glitter of the amethyst expanse
Was met by the leathery green leaves
Which sat in loosely on the twigs of a mighty oak
But the sky’s twinkle seeped through the gaps
Overpowering the earthly greens
The boy’s gaze, fixated on the beauty above him,
Fails to realize that he is slowly approaching
The curb of the bumpy parking lot
Until the neck-wrenching crunch
Of his foot smashing the concrete
Forces him to acknowledge it’s existence
But the boy didn’t care all too much
For the lasting sting the curb provided
Was muffled by the silence
Of this deep lavender night
11:38
As he crosses the lawn
The boy decides to walk
Down the middle of the street
Rather than on the jagged sidewalk
At first, the boy felt uneasy
“What if a car came and hit me”
The boy questioned
As he paced the crease of the road
But after a few seconds
The idea of anything or anyone driving by
Seemed to fade away into the deep, warm sky
For any sign of another human
Disappeared as soon as he’d touched foot to the street
The whole world seemed to be completely silent
The beauty of the sky
And the world around him
Eliminating all sound
11:39
He paced down the center of the road,
But his eyes couldn’t help but stare
At the shimmering purple above
The wondrous sparkle seemed to fall down
Through the crisp night air
And land on the emerald blades to his side
In the form of a soft dew
Nothing can stop him
For when he’s walking in the middle of the street
At this time of night
The world, in all its beauty, is as good as his
He takes a left turn onto a new road
Only to see a stoplight in the distance
But this angered him
The stoplight was like a crazy fan
Singing along at a concert
All you want them to do
Is stop distracting you from the true beauty
11:40
The wind blows ever so softly
As if it had somewhere to be
But didn’t want to wake
Any of the sleeping children in their rooms
The branches of the trees
Ebb and Flow as if they were dancing,
Celebrating the beauty of the night sky
The trees at times even seem to wave at the boy
So he does what any kind hearted admirer would do
Smile wide
And wave right back
The boy turns right this time
And instead of being greeted by a stoplight
He sees nothing but swaying trees in the distance
11:41
This turn marked the beginning
Of the end of the boy’s journey
At least for the time being
As he walked down the rest of the bath
He said a sort of peaceful goodbye
To the beauty all around him
But he did not make a nousie
He knew that nature could sense his thanks for it’s glorious gift
The boy turns and begins to walk down his driveway
The bark lavender of the sky growing
More and more purple by the second
As if it were a grand finale, made just for him
He grabs the handle of his back door
But hesitates for a moment
As simple as the goodbye should’ve been
He couldn’t bring himself to do it
As one final burst of gratitude and thanks
The boy glanced up to the sky
Shared a smile with her for one last time
And then walked inside, with every bit of that sky within him
