When I was little
I would sit outside,
and watch storms pass by,
like tidal waves in the air.
My mother would
drag me away from
fingerprint smudged windows.
Not understanding
how I felt
the storm rolling in my stomach
making its way into my lungs
like flames,
gently warming my soul.
I never knew why
people hated storms,
until my insides caught fire.
That was when,
I met you.

The author's comments:

I have always loved storms. It is something about the power behind them, like the sky has emotions - that intrigues me. Over the years, I have realized that there are a lot of people in the world that can be like storms - beautiful and destructive. Knowing these people has inspired me to write this.
