Where I'm From..
I’m from eye black,
from sweat beads on my nose and sore feet.
I’m from the frost filled fairways,
the freshly cut greens and the birds chirping.
I am from the freshly raked baseball diamonds as the sun rises,
from the walk off single up the middle.
From, “Keep your eye on the ball.” and “Make sure to follow through at the waist.”
I am from lake water so smooth not even a ripple in sight,
and the rev of the pontoon motor, from swimming to tubing.
I am from the first ones to get there and the last ones to leave.
From, “Have fun! No later than 11:30!” and “Don’t you have homework you should working on?”
I am from freshly grilled brats, hot dogs, and hamburgers,
from burnt marshmallows to complete the s’more.
I am from the small, cramped cabin where I was raised,
from the summer lake days surfing with friends.
From sunset boat rides in the brisk, breezy northwoods,
and the crisp, crackle from the campfire.
I am from the southern tide shifting in and out,
from 10 foot fishing poles, and 40 pound deep sea fish.
I am from hopes of a bright future,
from hoping to be an engineer,
and achieving the American Dream.
I am from the loving family,
that shaped me into who I am today,
From the strict mother,
who pushed me to succeed.
I will be from my own family,
living my own happy life,
and success.
