Before
I miss the days when love was unconditional
and a simple hug could soothe your tears.
I miss the days when your mind could be swarmed with fairy tales
until the hovering fog of reality faded into the background.
I miss the days when life could be laughed at without getting offended and bite you right back.
I miss the days when your biggest dilemma was the possibility of monsters hiding under your bed
waiting for your feet to slip from the covers.
I miss the days when your dad would hold you up on his shoulders proudly showing you off to the world while you scream and giggle as he moves.
I miss the days when you would hold your moms hand to cross the street
forever in her bubble of protection.
I miss the days when tomorrow was not a question but a stern promise from the world that wouldn't dare to be broken.
