Never Enough

The tears that craved makeup stains
Into the lines and creases of what’s left
Between us, nothing more than the
Red flying high above the skies,
Throwing punches at walls
And cursing the world,
To the blues that sink lower than
The water’s edges drowning me

You left without a trace
Of anything left
Those tears are replaced by
Anger for you
Sadness for you
Loneliness, but the blade captures that
The temptations fill an empty void again

But you can’t see that can you
You can’t see the pain soaked eyes
And the roses that bleed as
The thorns cut deeper into the flesh
Of realizations that your never coming back
The rain that followed for days on end
Slowly diminishing to grey clouds
Over sunny valleys of confused people

These words don’t mean anything
Especially when your soaring high above
The end of what’s been gone
But I want you to know that
I’m sorry, okay I’m sorry
I wasn’t strong enough to save
These beating hearts on my own
I’m sorry that I couldn’t talk you
Form the blade,
Or the cliff,
Or the pills,
I’m sorry I was too late
To help you at all
But I hope these words still
Mean something to you
Because there all I have left
Of the remainder of you

I’m sorry,
I didn’t see it earlier.

This particular piece was inspired by the challenge to write something saying I'm sorry. My goal in writing this was to say sorry to the people who I haven't been able to help or who have let me slip between the cracks. It was a challenge with the imagery in the words and I hope it connects with people on an emotion level to help everyone else, even just a smile reassures us. It hurts to slip through cracks unnoticed and I'm sorry I missed this one.
