Egotism
her eyes became duller as the days passed
her voice lost its passion to be heard
her mind was destroying itself with its own thoughts
her heart wilted in the absence of him
she lost everything that night
everything she desired
everything that made her want to keep going
his eyes gleamed with confidence
his benevolence muted as the sharpness of his tongue became deafening
his mind thrived in the toxicity of its cruel and arrogant thoughts
he lost everything that night
everything that made him boastful
everything that powered his egotistical insanity
they both lost something
but while one had interpreted being taken advantage of
as love
the other had exploited the insecurities of a passionate soul
for drive
in becoming more engulfed by his own existence

I was insired to write this piece because I believe that ego has the power to destroy even the most innocent and beautiful things in life.
