For the longest time I blamed myself for my own misery
Until I looked in the mirror and saw your reflection staring back at me.
I’ll never say you never gave me anything-
Because while making me pour your drinks, I learned to pour my own.
You taught my hands how to reach for listerine when the liquor cabinet was empty.
You taught my coffee how to reek of whiskey.
By swaying with swinging fist and bruised knuckles you taught me your dance.
You taught me, most important of all:
Your greatest fear will not be of someone else’s power,
It will be of your own.
You must be terrified,
And that’s why I’ll always forgive you.
