The Puget Sound
Some would think
that you are dangerous
too risky to touch,
too unpredictable,
but I would say that you
have moved me
across oceans of memories,
you have guided the wind to fill my sails.
No one can
capture the fragile
sunlight
in their fingers,
and no one can
fall so far
but rise up again
to meet the sky
like you can.
You are part of me,
you wash away my pain
you stir up happiness
I didn't think I had left in me.
As I sit and watch you
I can say that you are
my blessing
and my worst enemy.
When the wind is strong
you are
treacherous and wild,
twirling and tossing,
you watch me struggle
in your icy
grasp.
You push me until
I can breathe no longer,
until I fall to the ground
in despair
and you
sit and you watch
and you wait,
daring me to step back
into the boat.
