High School is a Gateway
High school is a gateway
It takes one from childhood and dependency
To adulthood and independence
Parents who are still learning to let go
Helping their freshman begin a journey to a new chapter
Teachers take on the task of helping parents let go
And inking the new chapter
Middle years consist of sophomores and juniors
The deafening silence of the stress
While growing in ways
Socially, physically, academically, athletically and emotionally
Parents battle like warriors
To keep the chicks in the nest
And nudging them off the limb
Correspondingly, teachers enable the use of the wings
Seniors see the horizon
Built especially by them
And supported by partners,
Parents and teachers
The taste of success is so close
High school is a gateway
And I have a key
