I Am From
I am from chilly lake water and stale sandy air.
From muddy feet and messy hair
And church dresses and barrettes.
I am from the “walbecq’s” with a strong personality.
Outgoing and hardworking.
I am from a hand that is greatly admired.
From lilacs and day lilies, their aroma drifting with the wind.
I am from grandma’s erratic dancing while visiting “The Guys”.
From grandpa’s humor and Cody’s pungent feet.
I am from leotards and tight spandex,
From chalk under my fingernails,
and ripped hands.
I am from “I dee dee doo’s” and meaningful phone calls.
Talking about the latest school drama and the bad school lunches
From lengthy car rides, and journeys across the bridge.
Windy and mighty.
I am from “Beach Boys” records playing all summer,
From grandpa’s workshop where the air is crowded with saw dust.
I am from warm fireplaces and fresh balsam candles.
From the smell of cloves and sleepy lullabies.
I am from the green couch discussions,
Politics and life lessons.

I lived in Michigan for 11 years of my life then I moved to Wisconson in 6th grade. I was ferious that I had to move to a place I didn't even know, I was also mad I had to leave my family. Me and my family were and still are very close and this poem was dedicated to them.
