Royalty on Rodeo
The plastic leather
Scarred with the smeared Claire’s lip gloss,
Worn by endless use.
The smiling, deformed decal
Beaming back at me
In black and white
Bringing back hers to me;
Recalling the glimmer in her eyes
As we saw her off.
The memories
With its pair, down
Rodeo Drive and beyond
Different, yet together
The King of Rock
The Queen of Hollywood.
I guess it was
A few dollars
Well spent.

This poem was inspired by matching purses that my sister and I have that we got four yeas ago in San Diego, California. It was the last vacation that my entire family, with 5 kids, went on together. She is away at college, so I wrote this poem one day while I was missing her.
