Time For Take Off
"Keep in touch!"
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the Fasten Seat Belt sign."
They've been walking the same lively streets of Times Square for the past four years,
Except in daylight it no longer seemed crowded and vibrant,
The dust and smoke filled the emptiness that remained.
His hand always sweaty from her grip,
Her arms falling asleep from dragging her shopping bags.
Went where she wanted to go,
Ate where he wanted to eat,
Left when they had to leave.
They would meet in the coffee shop on the corner of 46th St. and Bowery Ave.
Getting the same stale croissants for breakfast
And two shot espressos as an alarm to forget last nights bickering.
The light shining through the unwashed window
As they chatted about their families.
Uptown, downtown.
Their metro cards bruised and weathered.
Comes the evening where the dark consumes them,
They drink a couple beers and reminisce over their past.
They just graduated.
His flight is at eight AM,
Hers at eleven.
He played on his phone to occupy his time,
Her phone was already dead.
Not 1% left.
"Hope you have a safe flight."
"You've arrived at your destination."
