Thanks to the Tree
The tiny sapling stood desolate,
Foreign to the wonders of the world,
It’s tiny roots digging into the loose soil,
As its infant branches sway in the directions of the wind,
And it’s those branches I would have to thank,
For it has displayed the directions for my love and I to take.
Day by day, that sapling grew,
Keeping up with the momentum of life,
Extending its branches to the sky,
With its green fingers pointing in all different ways
And it’s those fingers I would have to thank,
For it reflected the first steps my child would take.
50 years have gone by and everything remains,
My family has grown in immeasurable ways,
Like the mighty oak's trunk our foundation is strong,
Yet like the leaves our moods rotate,
And I can happily say that in the distance I see,
A new tiny sapling waving at me.
