&quot; And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music&quot;.<br /> -F. Nietzsche

One day, your world is going to crash down on you. Your shoulders are going to succumb under the pressure and your bones are going to break. Every breath you breathe is going to ache and strain your voice. The waters are going to rush over your head and you're going to drown. The weightlessness you felt before is going to change and suddenly you're going to feel like you're trying to walk with an honorable posture, but it will feel as if an elephant is on your back. The stories that you were told as a child about people falling to the ever-looming darkness won't be stories anymore. You're going to dream of sunshine and rainbows, but when you wake up, you're going to see darkness and rain clouds. Sometimes, you're going to fly above the dark clouds and see the light on the other side. You're going to feel drawn to it and you're going to desperately want it so bad. And then one day, your world will suddenly and miraculously lift up. Your shoulders are going to strengthen with the constant pressure, and your bones are going to mend. Every breath you breathe is going to feel sensational, and you will emerge from the waters. The elephant on your back will slowly fade away, and then you’re going to feel weightless again. The stories told in your childhood about people emerging from the darkness and into the light won’t be stories anymore. You’re going to see the sunshine and rainbows, and this time you won’t be dreaming. And then you will fly above the dark clouds and into the light, with strong wings and a heart slowly being enveloped in gold. Then, ten years from now, you’re going to be sitting in your palace of ivory. You’re going to look down at the darkness that you once resided in and realize just how far you’ve come. You might even faintly see the anguish of others down there, and you’re going to wish that you could tell them, “The darkness may seem inevitable now. The pain and suffering and heartache and depression might feel insurmountable. However, if you truly look at the bigger picture, you’ll see that on the other side your sunshine and ivory palaces are waiting for you.” So what are you waiting for? Throw the elephant off of your back and shout, “I might not be strong now, but if I can get through this darkness and depression, I can see my palace!” Your time is now to become stronger. Now is the time to find your wings and get yourself out of your darkness; because sometimes, the only one that can save you is yourself.

My personal experiences with depression inspired me to write this. I want people that are struggling to know that truly, there is light above the darkness, and that it will not last forever. In the end, you will come out stronger.
