A Stranger to Consider

This is a promise though:
I will hold your dreams with me and carry them as go
Through lives tides and currents, never forgetting
The girl who fell asleep afraid of forever—I tried to understand.
I still read every poem you ever sent me, and I wonder if they are about me.
I can’t understand why you’ve changed.
It’s only during accidental eye contact that I see past the charade,
You’ve changed—and you’re so scared.
But your past has a way of catching up,
And hasn’t anyone told you, life is a cycle?
