Looking at a photo album can be hard
You wonder how time has gone by so fast
You see the sports, competitions, and plays where you have been starred
Wouldn’t it be nice to go back to the past?

When you are 5, the whole world seems at peace
There is nothing that could go wrong, besides not getting a cookie
You fill everyone’s heart with joy and are the missing puzzle piece
Your class has a great bond and never dreams about playing hooky

Now 10 is an age where you start to wander from your parents
It’s an age of finding yourself and becoming somewhat independent
You begin to like a girl or guy, who leave you subtle hints
On your 10th birthday, you received a gift you cherish today, a diamond pendant

When you are 15, somebody will tell you they love you
You learn to drive and start to look at your dream college
Now on top of the world excelling in every activity you ever knew
You feel as if you have attained all the knowledge

Twenty years old, things have changed
You are about to be on your own for the very first time
There has been so much advice, love, and awareness exchanged
You have to now support yourself and look for potential candidates, should be a crime

Thirty, flirty, and thriving is a famous movie
You have found a man or woman to walk challenging life with
Everything makes you happy that you have settled, it’s quite groovy
Who would have thought true love wasn’t just a myth?

You are now reaching the age your kids are distant
They have their friends, spouses, and kids
The everyday calls are now non-existent
To pass the time, you go to fundraisers to throw out bids

As an elder in a nursing home
I am neither happy or sad
Just feeling abandoned and alone
I feel as if I have done something bad

My kids never visit
They seem to always be busy
The least they could do is sit
I guess as we get older, we see everything as a tizzy

I now see that I once was my grandchild’s age
How great a kid I was
Now knowing they don’t let me see him, I fall into a rage
It is never good to take a pause

If I could tell anyone something right now
It would be to never give up
Because looking with my eyes and saggy eyelids with a raised eyebrow
I can tell you that life is not as sweet as it sets out to be

I know now to put myself in their lives
Or else I will just be another face in a picture frame
I don’t want to become a shadow or a faint smile
I want to be the one they come to for love
